At Enola, we often get asked about the origin of our name, and we’re happy to share our story with you. When we were first starting the company, we knew we wanted a unique and memorable name and logo that wouldn’t be overly complex. As one of our founders is of Cherokee descent, we looked at several common Cherokee words and names that were easy to pronounce. When we came across Enola, the birthname of Chief Black Fox, we knew we had the perfect name and logo for our company. Chief Black Fox was a skilled negotiator and played a vital role in representing the interests of the Cherokee people in negotiations with the United States Government. As Chief, Enola led negotiations that resulted in the relinquishment of approximately 7,000 square miles of land in what is today Tennessee and Alabama. He was also the brother-in-law of Dragging Canoe, a famous Cherokee War Chief and a relative of one of our founders, and together they fought to protect their land and people from encroachment.
